Continuous Improvement

Are you still working towards the goals you set on January 1?

At this point, it is common for most to forget about the vision they set for themselves and let their goals slip away only to become unrealized.

Everyday businesses and slow signs of progress may have halted the campaign we set out on at the beginning of the year. But, we are only around 10% into 2019! Don’t forget that slow progress is better than no progress and use the 90% left of this year as you set out to just 38 days ago.

3 principles I lean on to stay on track:

1. Compound Interest - One cent doubled everyday for just one month turns into $10.7 million. Deposits everyday count, no matter how small.

2. The Chinese Bamboo Tree - The tree requires watering and caring everyday, but for 4 years there are no visible signs of growth, not even 1 foot. Finally in year 5, a miracle, the tree grows 80 feet in just six weeks. Don’t focus on the outcome, focusing on executing everyday.

3. Second Order Consequences - First-order consequences often have opposite desirabilities from second-order consequences. Exercise is painful in the moment, but has desirable effects over time. Long term happiness is often hidden behind short term pain.
